Rotterdam port was awarded 'Port of the Year' in London during the 2013 event of

"Containerisation International Awards". The award was given by experts. They complimented

the port of Rotterdam for the significant investments they made to be leading European

industrial complex and logistics hub. Innovations like the initiatives NextLogic and  InlandLinks

and the port's sustainable object development also were  praised by the jury and gave their

contribution to the award.

The director of Containers, Breakbulk and Logistics,  Port of Rotterdam Authority, Emile

Hoogsteden was very happy with the award:

"Winning this award is a tremendous achievement and recognition

of our efforts. As the port of Rotterdam, we are constantly

working on new investments and innovations. We don’t do this

alone, but in partnership with as many market parties as

possible. This is the only way we can continue to improve our

port and pursue our ambition to be the most efficient, safe and

sustainable port in the world. A good example of this is

obviously the development of Maasvlakte 2. This is a project with

which we are investing in the future and not only responding to

the increasing volume size of container ships, but also taking

steps towards optimising the logistical supply chain. At the

same time, we enable our clients to achieve economies of scale.

That’s the aim of joint ventures like P3, which will also boost

our total throughput in the short and long term. Rotterdam leads

 today, by planning for tomorrow."

The World Economic Forum stated that the infrastructure of the Rotterdam port is the best for

the last two years. The businesses investments in the port of Rotterdam for the period between

2008 and 2015 is estimated to exceed €11 billion, for container terminals will go €1.2 billion

. The port main purpose is to respond the tendency of building vessel with capacity over 15,000

TEU. P3 already are sending to Rotterdam their biggest ships. The port will increase further its

volume when the  Maasvlakte 2 container terminals are in use.

The European CEO at APM Terminals,Ben Vree said:

"Although the frequency of calls made by container vessels to

Rotterdam may decline in the coming year, the volume will

continue to increase. Combined with the state-of-the-art

infrastructure and the improved efficiency in ship and cargo

handling, Rotterdam's future looks very bright. So I think the

port of Rotterdam deserved to win."

The publisher  Containerisation International has initiated the Containerisation International

Awards. The awards take place every year and they are given to private individuals and

businesses to praise their exceptional, proactive and innovative input in the logistics sector and

 the container liner shipping.

The Port of Rotterdam won 'Port of the Year'  beating the other nominees - the Port of Long
