Collision between 2 vessels in southern Greece

There was a collision between 2 vessels in southern Greece, 2 Syrian crew members are dead and 8 are missing, rescue teams are trying to locate the other missing seamen.

The tragic accident happened 7am (0400GMT) 78miles(125km) southwest of the southern Peloponnese peninsula.

The collision was between Consouth (flag Antigua) and Pirireis (flag Cook Islands). Weather was fine and the rescue operation was faciliated. Pirireis was transporting a cargo of fertilizer to Ukraine, sank. 7 people of 17 were rescued and 2 bodies were pulled out of the water.

The Consouth was heading to Malta from Turkey and had 16 Russian crew members, Filippino and Polish seamen on board(All safe).

Pirates Kidnap Four Off Equatorial Guinea

 Pirates kidnapped four crew members when they attacked a container ship off the coast of Equatorial Guinea, the vessel's management company said on Thursday.

Hamburg-based shipping firm Leonhardt and Blumberg said the four hostages - two Ukrainians, a Russian and one from the Pacific island nation of Kiribati - were taken when the Liberia-flagged Hansa Marburg was attacked on Tuesday by armed men.

Indian F/W Sea Messiah sunk

Indian fishing vessel sea Messiah was hit by an undefined vessel at around 0500 hrs.Apr 25 at Goa-karwar coast in Arabian sea from 250 nautical miles south of Mumbai. 
Fishing vessel was anchored at the time while it was hit.It broke into 2 and sank as soon as possible.so there is no time for the crew to send a distress message .There were 29 crews on board, 23 were rescued, 4 went missing, 2 dead bodies were recovered later.
One of the fisher man said that it was a Navy vessel which hits their vessel .Navy said that there were no fishing vessel at that time of collision Indian maritime authority and Coast guard and Navy are trying to figure out the vessel which hits the Sea Messiah 

Empty Gas Barge Explode on Mobile bay 3 in critical condition

A series of explosion had been taken in gasoline barge in Alabama late Wednesday.
A TWITTER UPDATE from mobile fire says that 3 blast occur on 2 barges on the east side of the Mobile River followed by the fourth explosion. It also says that three were injured in the blast and in critical condition were taken to the nearby hospital.

The first explosion is said to have occurred at 8:30 pm and second at 9:10 pm and the fourth is about 9:50 pm
An update from U.S Coast Guard says that the total of seven explosion have been reported and the fire has been put out. 3 people was transmitted to the USA Medical center . The unnamed Gasoline barge was owned by Kirby Inland Marine.

An earlier update from the COAST GUARD is one of the barge was an empty compressed natural gas that was at the dock for cleaning.

The new innovation of ship which makes our jaws wide open "THE TRIPLE E SHIPS"

The name Triple E ships is named for three principle

1. Economy of sale
2. Energy efficient
3. Environmentally improved

These ships are expected to be the largest container ships. The ship will be 400 meters (1,312 ft) long and 59 meters(194 ft) wide. The triple E ships will be able to carry 2,500 more containers, with a draft of 14.5 meters(48 ft) they will be too deep to use any port in the America or cross the panama canal, but will be able to sail in suez canal when sailing between Europe and Asia.

Totally if the container is stacked on top of each other they would touch the stratosphere -29 miles above the earth.If they are loaded on the single train it would need to be 68 miles long.

CAP THEODORA was attacked 2 times by pirates

The suezmax tanker CAP THEODORA  has been attacked two times in less than 1 week in gulf of Guinea.
The first attack was on April 16 in gulf of Guinea . The ship that was underway was approached by a speed vessel with 5-6 pirates in it.

The ship crew took effective maneuvers, started fire pump to repel borders and secured to save the ship from attack.After about 20 min the pirates gave up the attack.

The ship is a greek flagged , build in 2008 by SAMSUNG in KOREA. The ship is of 81,324 grt and 158,819 dwt, It is operated by EURONAV , whic has a fleet of 30 tankers
The second attack was reported on April 22 ,Pirates tried to board the ship but  like first time they failed. Authority had say that the pirate attacks are now increased in the horn of Africa.

MAERSK plans to remove the nose of the ship to increase the efficiency

MAERSK LINE is set to remove the bulbous bows from its container ship, to cut its bunker bills. with a weight of at least 140 tons, removal of bulbous bow will be a costly operation which will take around 12 days per ship to complete . which will create a fuel saving of 1-2% and estimated to take place in 2013

The purpose of the bulbous bow is to even out waves created alongside the vessel, thus reducing the propulsion power needed. Large container vessels are typically designed for speed of 25 knots, but with today's slow steaming the bulbous bow are often out of shape and thus generate high level of resistance.

EGYPT vessel ADAM caught with 20 tons of MARIJUANA

Italian police stopped an Egypt vessel with the name Adam carrying 20 tons of marijuana with established value of £250 m the Mediterranean

pantelleria  detected Adam.


This ship was loaded with more than 800 packages of

 drug wrapped in stack. 


ADAM was under surveillance for 2 days.

The vessel belong to Egyptian shipping line with registration in Comoros island. It is believed that the cargo was for on European Market. 6 Syrians were held in custody for international drugs trafficking

sea piracy fell 35% in first 4 months in 2013

For the first four months of  2013  when compared with the first four months of 2012.

 west Africa is fully patrolled by the navy to prevent the sea going vessels from pirates.
The INTERNATIONAL MARITIME BUREAU announced that 66 attacks were registered around the world for the first three months of 2013.The same period when compared with 2012 the attacks were 102.

4 vessels were hijacked and 75 peoples were taken as hostages and 1 killed

This year statistic wee have 5 reported attacks of somalia and gulf of aden plus 1 hijack. 
vessels sailing in the danger areas are now more safe with the patrolling war ships.

 If we go back for 2010 there were 49 hijacked ships in somallia and 1000 people were taken as hostages
