sea piracy fell 35% in first 4 months in 2013

For the first four months of  2013  when compared with the first four months of 2012.

 west Africa is fully patrolled by the navy to prevent the sea going vessels from pirates.
The INTERNATIONAL MARITIME BUREAU announced that 66 attacks were registered around the world for the first three months of 2013.The same period when compared with 2012 the attacks were 102.

4 vessels were hijacked and 75 peoples were taken as hostages and 1 killed

This year statistic wee have 5 reported attacks of somalia and gulf of aden plus 1 hijack. 
vessels sailing in the danger areas are now more safe with the patrolling war ships.

 If we go back for 2010 there were 49 hijacked ships in somallia and 1000 people were taken as hostages

The functions of bill of lading:

1. A receipt for a cargo signed by the master or by the owner port agent on behalf of the carrier, with remarks of the cargo.
2. A document of title of cargo, means the property may transferred to another party
3. Evidence of the contract governing terms and condition of carriage

SHIPPER:
                  Its the name and the address detail who is shipping the cargo.this may or may not be the actual owner or the manufacturer of the cargo,but also be the trader but it depends upon the type of bill of lading issued .

CONSIGNEE:
                             It is nothing but a actual buyer. This may or may not be a actual owner or recipient of the cargo it could be a bank or trader it depends upon the type of lading issued.

NOTIFY:
                     It is the name and address details of the persons who should be notified for the arrival of cargo.Depending upon the bill of lading issued it may be the actual buyer or the receiver of goods. Normally the notice of cargo is sent to the notify party.

BILL OF LADING NUMBER:
                             It is a unique number given to the shipment cover under the specific bill of lading.

REFERENCE NUMBER:
                                  This is used to update any reference number which will use to trace their shipment.

CARRIERS AGENT:
                              The details of the agent at discharge port is usually recorded by the shipping line so that the destination agent  of the client can contact the shipping line agents to query or the status of the shipment

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) completed and delivered a 56,000 dwt type bulk carrier M.V. Ionic Smyrni (MES Hull No. 1846) at its Tamano Works on 18th April, 2013 to Ionic Smyrni Inc., Marshall Island.

This vessel is a handy max type Bulk carrier of 56,000 dwt with large cargo hold capacity over 70,000 m3 and marks the 155th ship of its series.

New paper for chemical tanker safety data sheets (SDS)

Many significant bodies have put their heads together for a very important task of preparing a comprehensive paper for chemical tanker safety data sheets. INTERTANKO, the International Parcel Tankers Association, the Chemical Distribution Institute, the European Chemical Industry Council, and the Dangerous Goods Advisory Council, all have collaborated to prepare a paper that contains the regulatory requirements and guidance governing the provision of SDS. The paper has all the necessary information required by the seafarers, owners and shippersCaptain Steve Hardy of Inter orient Marine Services and Chairman of INTERTANKO’s chemical tanker committee said: “ It is very good to see organizations from two vital parts of the supply chain—ship owners and shippers—come together in support of this document. It will provide seafarers with clarity and become an easy reference on the various requirements for the provision of, as well as on the contents of Safety Data Sheets”. Roger Restaino of Stolt-Nielsen USA and Chairman of INTERTANKO’s Chemical Tanker Sub-Committee, Americas, described the document as a very valuable one “for the crew on the ships and staff in the offices”. He also added: “We also see it to be a valuable educational tool for our discussions with the manufacturers and shippers of products and who generate safety data sheets”.
